Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Orlando, FL

Posted: 05/11/2026 Industry: Engineering Job Number: 3597085

Job Description

What if you could work on highly visible medical and electronic hardware products where your designs move quickly from concept into production — and where engineers are expected to truly own what they create?

This opportunity is with a growing, innovation-driven product development organization seeking a hands-on Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to help lead new product development, production improvements and next-generation platform initiatives. The environment is highly collaborative, fast-moving and engineering-focused, with a small onsite team that works closely across mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and quality disciplines.

This is not a narrowly scoped CAD role. The position requires someone who enjoys balancing industrial design thinking, detailed mechanical engineering, manufacturability and real-world production support.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Design and develop mechanical systems, assemblies and product enclosures for new and existing products
  • Create customer-facing product packaging and external enclosure designs while also engineering the internal mechanical components and assemblies
  • Develop molded plastic parts, cast components, machined parts and stamped metal components
  • Support products throughout the full product lifecycle, including prototyping, testing, manufacturing release and sustaining engineering
  • Partner closely with electrical engineering teams to integrate electronic assemblies and board layouts into mechanical designs
  • Participate in production support activities, troubleshooting and manufacturing problem resolution
  • Lead and execute engineering change activities including ECNs, deviations and configuration management
  • Assess design changes for manufacturability, quality, regulatory and risk impacts
  • Support design reviews, prototype builds and first article activities
  • Work directly with suppliers, manufacturing teams and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure successful product introduction
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and change management processes
  • Support thermal considerations and enclosure integration for electronic assemblies

What They’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Approximately 5+ years of hands-on mechanical product development experience
  • Strong experience designing:
  • Plastic molded components
  • Cast and machined parts
  • Electronic enclosures and assemblies
  • Precision mechanical systems
  • Experience working in fast-paced product development environments where engineers wear multiple hats
  • Strong CAD experience, preferably SolidWorks
  • Experience supporting products through manufacturing release and production
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, electrical engineering and supply chain teams
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset
  • Comfortable working onsite in a highly interactive engineering environment
  • Strong attention to detail, ownership and follow-through

Highly Preferred Experience

  • Medical device or other regulated product development experience
  • Experience with:
  • Risk management
  • Design FMEA / Process FMEA
  • ECNs and change control
  • ISO 13485, ISO 14971 or similar quality systems
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Background working with electronic packaging or thermal considerations
  • Experience balancing product usability, aesthetics and manufacturability

Work Environment

  • Fully onsite role
  • Small, collaborative engineering team
  • High visibility and direct interaction with engineering leadership
  • Fast-paced product development environment with significant variety in day-to-day work
